I am a historian, Principal Research Fellow at the Science and Research Centre Koper, and I teach as an Associate Professor at the University of Ljubljana. I graduated from the University of Trieste and received my PhD degree from the University of Ljubljana. I enhanced my studies at universities in Bratislava, Prague, and Venice. I was a Humboldt Fellow at the Institute for South-East Europe of the Humboldt University in Berlin, Visiting Fellow at the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies in Regensburg, and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence. I am dealing with political and cultural history, memory and border issues in nineteenth and twentieth-century Europe, with special emphasis on northern Adriatic and Central Europe. I have lectured in the USA, the UK, Russia, Japan, Norway, Ukraine, Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, France, Germany, Austria, Czechia and Slovakia. My articles were published in nine languages, I am co-editor and author of four multi-lingual volumes, and my monograph Czechoslovakia in the Adriatic was published in Slovene (2009) and Czech (2014). My last edited volume Borderlands of Memory. Adriatic and Central European Perspectives were published by Peter Lang Oxford in the series Cultural Memories (2019), while my new book in Slovene (co-authored with Gorazd Bajc) is The Fire that embraced Europe. The Narodni dom in Trieste, 1920-2020 (Ljubljana, 2021, Italian translation in 2023).
