Prof. Dr. Borut Klabjan, Principal Investigator of the Open Borders project, wrote in the newspaper Il Piccolo (11 June 2026, page 20) that the discovery of a bunker on Mount Calvario raises important questions about the defence system and the history of the border. He emphasized the need for further research and mapping of bunkers, as they reveal a more complex picture of the Cold War in this area, and noted that the image of a strictly closed border and a heavily armed Yugoslavia is misleading.
