Lectures by Marco Abram and Karlo Ružičić at the International Conference Der rote Faden der Kooperation
IOn Wednesday, 20 May 2026, the international scholarly conference Der rote Faden der Kooperation – Il filo rosso della collaborazione will take place at the Landesmuseum Festung Franzensfeste / Museo provinciale Forte di Fortezza. The event is devoted to forms of cooperation in the Alpine region from the early modern period to the present day.
Special attention is given to two lectures by researchers from the Science and Research Centre Koper, which will be held as part of the afternoon panel on cross-border cooperation in the 20th century:
🔹 Karlo Ružičić-Kessler
The Alpine–Adriatic Working Community during the Cold War
This lecture highlights the importance of the Alpine–Adriatic Working Community as one of the key cross-border political and institutional frameworks of cooperation during the Cold War. Particular emphasis is placed on overcoming ideological and state borders and on the impact of this cooperation on the regional development of the wider Alpine–Adriatic area.

Cross-Border Cooperation between Italian and Yugoslav Mountaineering Organizations: Convegni Alpi Giulie/Srečanje Planincev Treh Dežel (1965–1985)
The lecture analyses an example of cooperation between Italian and Yugoslav mountaineering and alpine organizations which, despite political divisions, developed intensive forms of professional and cultural exchange. The Julian Alps Conferences are presented as an example of “silent diplomacy” and an important bridge between communities on both sides of the border.
The conference will be held in Italian and German with simultaneous interpretation and will bring together researchers from different disciplines and countries. The event offers valuable insight into the historical roots of contemporary forms of cross-border cooperation in the Alpine region.
