The Slovenian scientific community has announced the recipients of its highest national awards for research excellence for 2026. Among the awardees, Borut Klabjan stands out as the recipient of the Zois Award for outstanding achievements in the historical study of borders and memory in contemporary Europe.
Through his long-term research, Borut Klabjan has made a significant contribution to the understanding of historical processes in border regions, as well as to the study of collective memory, identities, and cross-border interactions in Europe. His work explores how political, social, and cultural transformations shape the lives of people living in areas where different nations, languages, and cultures meet.
The committee for the Zois and Puh Awards recognized his work as an outstanding scientific achievement that significantly advances historical scholarship and contributes to a deeper understanding of the European space. As a result, Borut Klabjan became one of the four recipients of the 2026 Zois Award for Outstanding Achievements.
The awards will be formally presented on 8 November at Cankarjev dom during the national ceremony marking Slovenia’s Day of Science. In total, 15 researchers and experts from various scientific disciplines will be honored this year.
For Znanstveno-raziskovalno središče Koper (ZRS Koper), the award represents an important recognition of the excellence of research conducted in the fields of history, heritage, and cross-border studies, while further strengthening the institution’s international visibility and scientific reputation.
